What is Binge Eating Disorder?

Binge Eating Disorder (BED) involves recurrent episodes of eating large amounts of food with a sense of loss of control. Episodes often include eating rapidly, past fullness, or when not physically hungry, and are followed by distress.

Unlike bulimia nervosa, regular compensatory behaviors (such as vomiting or laxatives) are not present.

Common signs

Feeling out of control during eating episodes

Eating until uncomfortably full or when not hungry

Eating alone due to shame, guilt, or embarrassment

Frequent dieting or weight cycling

Strong preoccupation with food, body, or weight
